Accessibility Statement

At Highlands College, we are committed to ensuring our website is accessible to everyone, regardless of ability, background, or technology. We want each visitor to have a positive experience when exploring our site, whether you're using a screen reader, navigating with a keyboard, or adjusting settings to suit your individual needs. Our aim is to make our website as inclusive, clear, and easy to use as possible.

ReciteMe

To help us achieve our accessibility goals, we’ve integrated the Recite Me accessibility toolbar across our website. This tool gives you a range of helpful features, including:

  • Text-to-speech functionality
  • Customisable font sizes and styles
  • Colour contrast and background settings
  • A screen ruler and reading mask
  • Translation into over 100 languages

You can access the toolbar by clicking the “Accessibility Tools” button present on every page.

Our commitment

We're working hard to meet the requirements of the UK Public Sector Bodies (Websites and Mobile Applications) Accessibility Regulations 2018, and we follow the principles of the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2, aiming to achieve at least AA standard wherever possible.

We also ensure that our approach aligns with local digital accessibility expectations as outlined by the Government of Jersey’s digital inclusion strategy.

Ongoing improvements

We know accessibility isn’t a one-time task—it's an ongoing journey. We regularly review our site and content to identify areas for improvement and welcome feedback from our community.
We are working to address:

  • Legacy documents and PDFs that may not be fully accessible.
  • Third-party content and embedded media that may not meet all accessibility criteria.

If you encounter any issues or have suggestions for how we can improve your experience, please don’t hesitate to get in touch.
