The Highlands College Foundation oversees the distribution of this dedicated fund. It is open for applications from Highlands College staff, students, and alumni, as well as independent researchers and organisations based in Jersey or internationally.
Le Catillon II Hoard Fund
In a significant boost to scientific and educational research, the Highlands College Foundation was appointed in September 2023 to administer funds from the sale of the Le Catillon II Coin Hoard — the largest Celtic hoard ever discovered in Western Europe.
Originally unearthed in a Jersey field in 2012, the hoard comprises over 69,000 coins and numerous pieces of gold and silver jewellery dating back to around 30–50 BC.
Following its formal acquisition by the Government of Jersey in 2021 for £4.25 million, a portion of these funds — specifically £250,000 — was allocated to support ongoing research into the hoard’s historical, archaeological and cultural significance.
How to apply
The fund aims to encourage in-depth academic exploration, from advanced scientific analysis and conservation techniques to public history initiatives and education projects.
This initiative not only honours Jersey’s rich cultural heritage but also provides a unique opportunity for the local and academic community to play an active role in uncovering the secrets of this extraordinary Iron Age treasure.

Apply for funding
The Highlands College Foundation (HCF) is offering grants from a dedicated £250,000 fund to support scientific and educational research into the Le Catillon II Coin Hoard – the largest known Iron age hoard in Western Europe.
The HCF is a member of the Association of Jersey Charities (membership no. AJC519) and holds the Registered Charity Number: 280. The aim of the HCF is to secure and disburse funds, that may be restricted or unrestricted, for educational benefit – primarily serving the interests of Highlands College students. The HCF has worked with Jersey Law Officers to amend the Constitution to enable the administration of Le Catillon II Hoard Fund (the Fund).
It falls upon The HCF and all trustees to promote, market, and advertise a wide-reaching campaign to encourage applications for grant funding. In doing so, assigned Trustees will review applications against defined criteria and successful applications will receive a grant. The total available funds are £250,000.
